loving art

I love art. I also love shopping. So when I'm out and about I always have my eye out for things I can decorate my home with. What I love about decorating a home is that it's like this blank canvas that you can design and create as you like. Everyone has their own unique style. As for myself, I've gone through many phases and I think I will continue to go through phases. In the past few years I think I've matured in my interior designing. I like things that are elegant, with some modern pieces, and a touch of vintage. I will be sure to write and post pics of my home in the coming weeks and months. I have many projects, so it'll be fun to do some before and afters.

Another thing I love is shopping at the Dollar store. My favorite one is the Dollar Tree. You never know what you're going to find there, and in recent years the selection has become even better. The best part? Every thing's only one dollar! How cool is that? So on my last trip home to the US I made my usual stop to the Dollar Tree (well, honestly I made several stops during my trip). I was so happy to find art prints and matting, all for a dollar a piece. I looked through everything and here are my favorites that I purchased and brought back with me:

Note: Please excuse the lack of photography skills. I took these pics just today, and was having some lighting problems (I left the plastic covering on the prints to keep them protected).

"black and pink dress up"

I love these black and pink pieces. I once saw this really beautiful painting of a dress and I wanted it so badly. It's a piece that I immediately had an idea for. I want to make a dressing area in my room or the spare room, think of a walk-in closet but much bigger, like a room closet. And I want to hang pretty pictures of dresses and shoes. I never did buy that dress painting so I was thrilled to find these prints. Think of the creative things I can do with them. And only $2 (the two smaller ones came together for $1)....cool deal!

"simple sunflowers"

I love these simple sunflower prints. I'm not sure where they'd even go in my home but I was drawn to them for some reason. I was able to find matting that matches. Only I placed them wrong in the picture. I would frame the green picture with the yellowing matting, and the blue picture with the green matting. I could see these side by side, or even better, placed vertically. I'll update if I find them a place.

"quilted butterflies"

I know it may seem that I have an obsession with butterflies, but I don't. I mean, I really do love them, but it's not like I have a butterfly collection or anything. To be honest, this is one of the few things in my home with butterflies. What I liked about these prints is the quilting effect within their wing design. That's not really my style either, but I just loved these for some reason. Again, not sure where they're going to go, but will find a place. ;-)

"funky frogs"

A mother can never go shopping without thinking of her little one(s). In my case, I have only one little one so perhaps I go a little crazy when shopping for him. I saw these funky frog prints and thought I could definitely do something cool with them. They also match the matting that I bought so the "simple sunflowers" and "funky frogs" will have to fight over them. ;-)

So there you have it, my art shopping journey at the good old Dollar Tree. Shall I go this summer and try to find more? ;-)
