i love my president

I have to admit that when the presidential campaign started way back when, I was a Hillary supporter. I didn't even know who Barack Obama was at that time. But the more I began learning about him, the more intrigued I was and the more confident I became that he was the one to be the next US President.

I still am confused why people were so wrapped up in what race, gender, or age the next president would be. What I was worried about was electing a good president. One who would be capable of full filling the demands of the job. I can't think of a more difficult job. I mean, can you imagine being the president of the United States of America? The reason I liked Hillary is that she was confident, very intelligent, strong-willed, and the fact that her husband was a former president was a definite plus. But Barack Obama soon proved that he was even more capable and I soon became a fan. Before he was even elected I taught my then 2 yr. old how to say "Barack Obama", he still says "Barack Omama" (but that's okay for now, he didn't even start preschool yet). I knew that this was going to be our president and I wanted my son to know him. When he delivered his inauguration speech, it was one of my most proudest American moments. I felt history in the making. And I was so full of hope. Perhaps one reason I felt like this is because living outside the US I see how other countries view America. And I have seen how fragile our ties and reputation have become. It was crucial for America to elect a president who could not only repair but build better relationships around the world. The world is a big place, full of many countries, many peoples, many opinions. In this day and age it can not be only about you, it must be about how to live in peace with others around you. We may not always realize it, but what goes on in one part of the world can dramatically affect the other.

President Barack Obama delivering his speach in Cairo, Egypt.

Today I saw the president's speech in Cairo and I was so moved that I had to blog about it. As an American Muslim, I really appreciated his knowledge about true Islam and his words of respect and kindness for it. I also love how he delivers a speech. I could listen forever. He's one of the few speakers of today that not only speaks but teaches. I learned a lot of things just from this one speech he gave today. And living here in the Middle East, I can tell you that a lot of people were moved by this speech today.

So to my president, way to go! Keep up the great work!
