One day I want spicey. One day I want sweet. I'm all over the place. But I guess it's all good because at this stage of the game flavors are being passed to my baby and could help develop an appreciation for all these different tastes.
As far as meals go, I'm finding it difficult to eat from our usual menu here at home. Recipes that I used to love are now annoying to me. And I hate to talk about food that way. With so many hungry people in the world, I feel horrible admitting that. But it's how I feel. I can't help these crazy hormones. As a side note, food is never wasted in our home. It's a big no-no for us.
The foods I want aren't as easy to come by here in Saudi. At least my cravings for Indian food are easy to find. Btw, I LOVE Indian food...yum! But things like tacos and pierogies aren't readily available. I can make tacos (I can find the kits at the grocery store now), but pierogies I'd have to make homemade. I guess I need to stop wishing for them to magically appear and just try to make them.
But as far as my strange, snack-like cravings, I have had some luck. Here are five cravings I've recently had...
Auntie Anne's pretzels. I'll take regular and cinnamon sugar please.
Chocolate Chip cookies. A longtime favorite of mine. They are selling freshly baked ones at my school this year. Oh, it's a dangerous discovery of mine. I also bought the ingredients to make some here at home. And anytime we get Subway, hubby knows to get me a couple of these for dessert.
Gummy candy, particulary the fruity sugar-coated kind. I know, this is so horrible to eat during pregnancy. I actually only bought a very small amount two days ago and there is still some left. I promise not to eat too much of this. But I have cravings for fruity flavored things a lot. Some healthier ways of fullfilling this craving have been Fruity Pebbles cereal and chewing sugarless fruity flavored gum.
Smoothies and such. Anytime we eat out I order a smoothie or mixed juice drink (non-alcoholic of course, I don't drink alcohol even when I'm not pregnant). Mmmm. They are so yummy. I recently tried a mixed berry and a mango, both delicious. I also like the lemonade mixes out there too. Sometimes I make a homemade version with lemonade, frozen strawberries, and fresh mint. YUM!
MILK. White, Chocolate, or Strawberry. I can drink glasses and glasses of this stuff. Which is good, because it's definitely a healthy choice for baby and me. I've always been a big milk drinker and I'm very happy that little guy takes after me on this.
Now, don't be worried. I know some of these cravings are not such healthy choices. I assure you that I do eat plenty of healthy foods throughout the day. I eat veggies everyday, and I do my best to eat some kind of fruit as well. I'm a big fan of chick peas and lentils, so on the days that I don't have an appetite for meat, I try to eat plenty of beans and things to make up for it. ;)
I'm just wondering how well my post pregnancy diet will work out. God help me. lol.
