the boys' bedroom plans

Hello Blog.  I'm still here.  Just haven't had lots of Blog time.  I even thought about saying my good-byes to this blog, but I guess for now it'll stay.

I've been busy preparing for the new family member who is set to arrive in about 2 months.  I went on sick leave from work (Dr's orders).  And I've gone through the emotional roller coaster of dropping little guy off at school, returning home, and watching the clock until it's time to pick him back up (this Mama had some major seperation anxiety).  And on top of that, my housekeeper went on her 2 month vacation.  Normally, this would not be a big deal.  However, being very pregnant and being restricted from many things because of a high risk pregnancy, we had to hire a temp to fill in for these 2 months.  And let me tell you that training somebody new is probably just as much work.  Also, little guy is not having it.  He wants his "nanny" back.  The funny thing is that I do everything for him, but he still became quite attached.  So, we'll be happy when she returns.  I actually wish I could take a break from housekeepers, I get such headaches from all the other things I have to deal with.  It sounds nice having the help, but believe me, there is SO. MUCH. MORE. to it.

Now that I'm home, it's time to tackle the last big project before baby brother's arrival...the boys' bedroom.  And by boys I mean little guy and baby brother.  The baby will be sleeping in his bassinet next to me for the first few months, which means little guy will probably still claim his favorite spot, right between hubby and me (thank God for king size beds, uh?).  But the plan is for the boys to eventually be settled in their own bedroom, together.  So, we shall set it all up and have it ready as an option before baby even arrives.  Besides, we haven't done anything major for little guy's room since he was born, so we're focusing on the whole "big boy room" theme to make him feel like a proud big brother.

It may seem hard having two boys, five years apart, share a room.  But I think I've found a way for it to happen.

First, I started with colors and bedding.  Little guy wanted a "Thomas the Train" bedroom.  I haven't found the bedding here yet.  So, I'll either order it online or bring it back this summer from the U.S. (his current Tom&Jerry has similar colors, so it'll have to work until we find Thomas).
I found these bedding sets from Walmart and Amazon.

So for colors, this gives us blue as the main color with accents in red, yellow, and some green.  Perfect for a boys' room.  Now onto the baby bedding.  I was able to find a really nice bedding set for the baby which will tie in pretty well with little guy's Thomas wish.
This is the My First Adventure set from Mothercare, a baby/childrens' store from Europe.  I think it's a great choice because a) the colors will work, and b) it has trains!  I have already bought, washed, and ironed this set.

So, then it was onto furniture planning.  Little guy needs a new bed, a new dresser, and a new closet.  The baby will use little guy's crib and dresser (which has a changing table on top), but will need a new closet.  Both boys will need something to hold and organize their toys (they will each get their own).  And we'll keep the current bookshelf.

We want to stay on a budget so we've decided to go with Ikea for the main furniture pieces.  And we're planning to pay the contracted company that our local Ikea uses to delivery and assemble the pieces (I phsically can't do it, and hubby is way too busy with work right now).

So, this is the plan, and I'm hoping to start soon.  The last time we inquired about delivery they had a wait.  So even if we purchase things in the next day or two, it may take a couple of weeks to receive them.  I just want to get started.  It's hard to organize things in totes and bags (which is how I'm currently housing all of baby's things).  And little guy's room really needs a make-over.  Hopefully, it'll all work out and I can take some pics to share.  ;)
