I have posted a couple of times about the Islamic month of Ramadan. Upon realizing that we have only ten days left, I wanted to share some interesting information about this special part of the month.

The last ten days of this month are very important in the Islamic faith. One particular night during the month of Ramadan, the first Quranic revelation was revealed to the Prophet Muhammed. It is know as "Laylat ul Qadr" (the Night of Measurement or the Night of Power). According to the prophet, this night falls on one of the odd numbered nights in the last 10 days of Ramadan. Many Muslims stay up all night praying to God, seeking forgiveness and guidance.
Allah, which is Arabic for God, described this night in the Quran as a night different from all the rest. Why? Because this night is greater than a thousand months, for in it, hosts of Angels, including Angel Gabriel, descend, by their Lord's leave, to accomplish every task. Peace prevails 'til the break of dawn. (97:1-5)
So as we journey through these last ten days of Ramadan, I wish you all peace and blessings. :-)

you know... I learn something new from you every day! I swear you guys should move back here and you should be a geocultures professor! I think I'd actually be interested in the classes this time around. haha
ReplyDeleteThanks! You know, I think I'd love doing something like that. I went twice to my sisters' high school and did presentations about Saudi Arabia and Islam. I really loved it, and I felt I really had their attention (which is hard to get from a room full of HS sts, esp in their History class). :-)
