Wow, I've been spending a couple hrs these past few nights (I should say mornings as we go to bed in the morning-yeah, still on US time here...lol) trying to catch up on all my fav blogs. I don't think I follow too many, but I wasn't really able to read them while on vacation. It seems that last Ramadan I had more free time for blogging. This year I've been quite busy and find it difficult to find extra time. So once hubby and little guy are in bed, I take some "me" time and visit the blog world. :)
I have soooo much to talk about and many things to share from our trip this summer but tonight/today I have to cheat and do a quickie.
The cool people at Coca-Cola have designed some Coke cans especially for Ramadan.
I find it interesting that I've always had this thing for the moon and stars and then as it turns out the crescent moon with a star is a symbol of Islam. But do you know why? We definitely do not worship the moon or stars. Worshipping or praying to anyone or anything other than God is the biggest sin in Islam. The reason for this symbol is because the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. Months begin with the new moon. So when the crescent moon is spotted, this begins a new month. This is especially important for the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims must fast from sunrise to sunset. Muslims need to know the first day to begin fasting. And it's a joy to see again at the end of Ramadan/the beginning of the next month, because the day after Ramadan is an Islamic holiday (called Eid).
Just a little Islamic lesson for today. Have a super great day!
Love and Peace! :)
