After much thought and consideration I decided to use my pic in my profile. For most bloggers this may seem like no big deal. But for me, I wasn't so comfortable putting my pic on the Internet. It's much different than facebook where one can set privacy settings according to their comfort. But it is always nice to match a name with a face.
Also, I thought that perhaps I could break some stereotypes. If you hear of a Muslim girl you may picture a woman completely covered, "hiding" behind a veil of some kind. Or you may picture a Middle Eastern girl. If you hear American Muslim girl, you may picture an African American girl. But you see, Islam is not a religion that belongs to only one race. And it's not a religion that hides away women (when we see this happening, there are always insecure males behind it, who are NOT following their religion...I have much to say about this issue and do plan to post about this in greater detail at a later date).
So here I am. A white American Muslim girl who is VERY strong, VERY independent, and VERY grateful to show others that all races and all colors are beautiful. I've always had friends from different races/cultures, but after becoming Muslim, I have made friends from around the world. They are all beautiful, inside and out. And I have learned something from each and every one of them.
Pretty packaging is nice, but true beauty lies within. ;)
