washing linens

The flu has come to visit us. :( My poor little guy has become it's first victim. Hubby seems to be #2. And I have just a touch of it (wish I could trade with little guy). I've always been nervous about the flu shot and we never get it. But after seeing little guy suffer these past couple of days, hubby and I have agreed that we want to start getting the flu shot every year, all three of us.

Little guy has requested to rest downstairs on the couch with "Mama's pillow" (he's such a sweetheart). As soon as I got the chance I removed all the bedding and threw the sheets into the washing machine (with some Clorox, one of my BFFs).

I was reminded of an article that I read a few weeks ago and had saved to my favorites. The article is about how often our bed lines and towels should be washed. Ready for their advice?

  • Bed sheets should be washed weekly in HOT water (130 degrees). This removes dead skin cells which bacteria just love (I know, big EWW!) and dust mites that cause allergies.
  • If you or your lovely tend to sweat a lot or if you have a dog, washing your sheets should be done every couple of days.
  • Mattress pads should be washed bi-weekly or at least once monthly.
  • Pillows should be washed every six months. Pillow protectors are highly recommended.
  • Comforters and blankets should be washed monthly.
  • Towels should be washed weekly. Smaller more frequently used towels should be washed more than that as they can easily spread things such as staph infections and pink eye.

If you'd like to read the article (which is where I found the above info and images) click here. Wishing you and yours good health!
