This post will show a little Saudi/Arabic flavor (to make up for yesterday's no show). And I mean "flavor" literally. :)
We don't eat fast food that often. We usually only eat it a couple of times a month. I don't want little guy to think that Happy Meals are a normal dinner choice. I want him to feel that they're special treats to enjoy now and then. And this is for health reasons of course. In saying that, we do enjoy ourselves the occasional order of McDonald's. Little guy's fav is a happy meal with chicken nuggets. It's funny because as a child I always wanted to eat my fries first and then think about the burger or nuggets 2nd. But for little guy, if there are nuggets present, he'll finish those off first and then have a few fries. I guess that's the better choice. Here's a pic of a Happy Meal with Arabic on it.
Translation: The colorful Arabic letters at the top spell out "Happy Meal" and would be pronounced as such. The smaller red text in the yellow box at the bottom says "Ana Aheba" which means "I Love" (obviously it's the Arabic version of the slogan, "I'm lovin' it"). As a matter of fact, because my Arabic is so lacking, the ending of the word love could actually mean "love it". (P.S. I am in no way a translator, and may have mispelled)
Next up, Outback Steakhouse. Yum. Hubby and I went there recently on a date. It is so hard for me to go out without little guy. I'm not even joking. I feel like a piece of me is missing. At the same time, I do recognize the importance of alone time with hubby. It's always nice to spend that time together, but of course little guy always comes up in our discussions...lol.
We could not finish our meals, as usual, so we had to pack things up and bring them home. Btw, heating up a filet in the toaster oven works out really well. Hubby is very picky about reheated food, and he really enjoyed his steak leftovers the next day. The veggies heated up well this way too. I just LOVE Outback's broccoli. No, I'm for real. I really do. I was such a picky eater as a child, and now I love veggies. Who would've thought? Here's a picture of our take home bag (isn't it funny that I take pics of bags...lol).
Translation: The text spells out Outback (the larger font), and Steakhouse (the smaller text). So even when speaking Arabic, you would say "Outback Steakhouse".
Most products and places of business keep their English names here. They'll just be spelled with Arabic letters. I always like to practice reading Arabic when I'm out and about and I'll start sounding out a word or phrase and realize that I'm actually reading an English name of something...lol. My spoken Arabic needs a lot of work, but I know my letters and how to read and write. That was more important to me way back when and now I appreciate that I learned those things first.
So anyhoo, off to grade some papers and hopefully get some well needed sleep afterwards. Goodnight! ;)

I love when you do these kids of posts. It's always neat to see what things in saudi look like for you. I didn't know they had Outback there. I remember you saying you like Olive Garden, do they have that there?
