fulla

When I was little Barbie was, without a doubt, one of my most favorite toys. My sister and I had quite the collection. And I think in a way I never outgrew the whole Barbie thing. God-willing, maybe one day I will be blessed with a daughter who will enjoy collecting Barbies too.

Here in the middle east there is another favorite toy among little girls. Her name is Fulla.

Fulla is a Muslim version of Barbie. She often comes with headscarves and/or outer garments that she can wear when she "goes out". Her outfits are very modest and she is meant to encourage young girls in a positive way. She is all the rage here. Just like Barbie in the U.S., you can find Fulla everything; toys, stationary, bags, accessories, cereals, snacks, clothing, shoes, etc, etc, etc.

Unlike other "Barbie Knock-offs", Fulla is a quality doll with a whole line all her own. And although Barbie is well-known, somewhat available, and very well liked here, Fulla is definitely the favorite, at least around here. Just ask my students, 2nd grade girls. ;)

Here are some Fulla dolls that are available...

Fulla with abaya (the black outfit) and Fulla with jilbab (coat-like garment)

A Muslim woman enjoys fashion just like any other woman, and Fulla is no exception.

This Fulla comes with a prayer garment and prayer mat. They also make these pretty, pink satin-like prayer garments and rugs for young girls who are learning how to pray. They even come with a cute little satin bag to hold them in. I want one for myself, by I'm a little too big. Boo.
So, were (are) you a Barbie fan? What do you think of Fulla?
