In person you can notice more of the green trimmings (I think that's why I like it, green is one of my favs). Anyway, I found a couple of other beautiful mosques pics and decided to share (you can also see some parts of Riyadh in the backgrounds)...
Did you ever wonder what the heck people do in mosques? Well, they pray, read Quran, listen to sermons, and sometimes have study groups. Friday is to Islam what Sunday is to Christians. Every Friday there is a special sermon and prayer peformed. Here's a pic of men praying in the mosque...
In Islam women are not required to go to Friday prayer but in most countries many women do. I went almost every Friday when I lived in the US. But in Saudi, it is not common for the women to go to Friday prayer. I'm not sure why. I, along with many of my non-Saudi friends, find this interesting. Saudi women do go to the mosque during the holy month of Ramadan though.
Anyway, here's a little quiz for you. How do you say mosque in Arabic? Any guesses?
The answer: Masjid
Did you get an "A"? :)
P.S. If you have any topics you'd like me to cover in Saudi Sunday, please leave a comment. :)
